CRAFT Defensive Tactics Program: A Cost Effective Means of Liability Mitigation
CRAFT Defensive Tactics Program: A Cost Effective Means of Liability Mitigation
Defensive Tactics is a low-frequency/high liability skill set. This skill is also among the most rapidly diminishing skills that officers receive and it is usually one of the least frequent training activities conducted.
The first step in liability mitigation is to conduct continual and ongoing training. Finding time and resources to dedicate to training is challenging to say the least. Because this program is in a POST-Approved format it can be divided into short training sessions that are conducive to squad room briefing. Your in-house instructor can easily conduct and document an ongoing training program.
Conventional defensive tactics programs provide officers with an onslaught and an overload of individual techniques that the officer is incapable of recalling under stress. This leads to an emotionally charged officer whose reaction is outside of departmental training and guidelines and incongruent with organizational values.

The H2H Crisis Response Series
Principles of Crisis Response I: Critical Thinking in a Tactical Environment
The Crisis Response Series is a graduate series of eight courses that are designed to provide a training continuum for first responders, supervisors, and command personnel.
This cohesive program distinguishes itself with interactive and dynamic, principle-based instruction and provides even the well-experienced practitioner with valuable tools with which to continually improve skill sets and organizational responses to crises.
Principles of Crisis Response II: Real-time Crisis Management
Principles of Crisis Response II provides supervisors the ability to orchestrate a multidisciplinary response to mass-casualty or sustained events such as a natural disaster, terroristic act, or criminal act. The participant will engage in tabletop exercises utilizing established protocols to manage and control the dynamic interaction necessary to implement appropriate mitigation measures. Supervisors will learn a decision-making paradigm to gain control of a crisis at the onset, to identify and place resources, and to move an event into the next operational phase.
Principles of Crisis Response III: Effective Leadership When It Counts
Principles of Crisis Response III prepares command personnel for pre-planning a response to and managing a large-scale event. This will be an interactive and participative experience. The participant will experience, in tabletop format, the command and control of a large-scale, sustained operational response to a mass-casualty event. Topics to be addressed included first responders and realistic expectations, media relations, dissemination of information, inter-disciplinary cooperation and communication, sustainability of operations, and resource coordination.

All-Hazards Response Planning and Preparation
All-Hazards Response Planning and Preparation
We can help you with the development, training, implementation, and execution of an 'All Hazards-Operational Response Plan.' The principles of planning, prevention, and preparation for mass casualty events are multidisciplinary and, as such, applicable to a multitude of events.
A customized plan will provide a scalable template for a cohesive organizational response to a variety of incidents, emergencies or disasters ranging from a) less serious, more internal day-to-day emergencies that can occur any time (like a fire, a power outage, a congregant getting sick, equipment failure, etc.) or b) an incident that requires coordination with individuals and organizations outside the confines of the primary location (i.e. tornado, large-scale, long-term power outage, etc.) that will require significant coordination as well as an Active Shooter Response Plan.
Any operational plan and training are destined to fail if the administrative and leadership component is not wholly aligned and prepared to integrate at every level. Even indirect or widespread events can have a cumulative effect on your organization, employees, and your customers. It is crucial that you have an organizational response plan that is developed solely and specifically to address your needs.
If your organization assumes a functional responsibility for incident management as a response for an in-house organizational crisis or as a change agent for sister organizations, the development of a comprehensive plan will provide for a response mechanism to internal needs/threats and will also better enable you to integrate with local, state, and federal response mechanisms.
We integrate the FEMA-Incident Command System (ICS) into a comprehensive plan to ensure a proportional response to incidents. An organization must be forward-looking in all matters. A critical incident may have an extensive peripheral effect on the basic day-to-day infrastructure that attendees, congregants, employees, and the community all rely upon. The participation of key administrative staff is crucial, as it will ensure the clarity of the vision and increase the probability of the plan's successful execution.

Building Clearing/Active Shooter
Building Clearing/Active Shooter
The objectives of this course are to familiarize the student with patrol response to active shooter/threat incidents, building clearing, and other high-stress incidents. This will be a hands-on training course that will include force-on-force scenarios. At the end of the course, the student will be able to effectively function as a single officer responder to an active threat event or coordinate a team to build clearing or respond to an active threat event. Students will review recent active threat incidents, and these events will be discussed on a tabletop. The objectively reasonable force will be discussed, particularly as it relates to distinguishing an active threat from a static event, hostage/armed, and barricaded events that may be/become static. There will be a discussion of the dynamics of action versus reaction as it pertains to hostage rescue and active threat circumstances; specifically, there are dangers posed to citizens and officers when issuing verbal warnings. The concept of "opportunity cost" will be discussed.

Emotional Intelligence: On the Street and In the Interview Room
Emotional Intelligence: On the Street and In the Interview Room
This course is ideal for supervisors, trainers, and those responsible for ensuring professional police conduct. Participants will learn how the tenets of Affect Script Psychology can be integrated into a training curriculum that imparts principle/value-based decision-making that is integrated with social emotional learning and that develops officers that are self-aware and self-managing: the epitome of a professional.
The comprehensive and enhanced understanding of the self and others will improve de-escalation skills, conflict mediation/resolution as well as the development of leadership traits that will contribute to organizational health.
The resultant training effect is an emotionally self-aware officer capable of a reasoned and well-disciplined response congruent with the high expectations of a community vested in high-yield, police performance that maintains constitutional sanctity.

Emotional Intelligence: A Paradigm Shift in Police Training
Emotional Intelligence: A Paradigm Shift in Police Training
The role of emotional intelligence in police behavior has been neglected if not entirely ignored. Other disciplines involving high-stakes human performance, such as elite athletes and stellar-performing global executives, are heavily reliant upon and are highly competent in social-emotional intelligence.
Years of discourse and volumes of literature regarding police performance, when examined and summarized collectively, speak to physiological arousal as the primary contribution to performance issues. They offer little more insight into the root cause of failure during the police-to-citizen interpersonal exchange. This deficit results in literary distortion and amplification of physiological arousal as the causal agent in police-citizen conflict.
When an officer perceives the absence of another person's caring, respect, or valuing, they may experience a feeling of impotence or powerlessness, and this can unnecessarily place the officer on the offensive. This emotional volatility results in tactical blindness and deteriorates our interactions with the citizens.
A curriculum that imparts principle/value-based decision-making, integrated with social-emotional learning, develops officers who are self-aware and self-managing: the epitome of a professional. The byproduct and added value of this comprehensive understanding of self is enhanced conflict mediation/resolution as well as the development of leadership traits that will contribute to organizational health.
The resultant training effect is an emotionally aware officer capable of a reasoned and well-disciplined response consistent with the community expectations of a high-yield police performance that does not compromise constitutional sanctity.

Inspirational Leadership
Inspirational Leadership
Your organization's success is dependent upon two customers: internal and external. You have inspired your external customer to identify with your organizational beliefs, the result of which is a meaningful relationship based upon common and mutual values and beliefs. Aside from the baseline of valuing your service or product, on a deeper level, they must believe what you believe. That customer, with whom you have established a shared system of beliefs, measures compatibility in value-laden terms.
Participants will learn to foster a deep and meaningful relationship with your internal customers and your employees. They will learn the importance of clarity, discipline, and consistency to engender a sense of common identity and purpose. Too often, leaders are focused on what we do and not enough on why we do it. If you want to inspire loyalty within your organization, you must inspire others to embrace why you exist beyond providing products and services.

Emotional Intelligence (EI)
Emotional Intelligence (EI)
Intellectual capability and technical know-how certainly keep things moving. However, the personal qualities of initiative, empathy, adaptability, and persuasiveness are what keep things moving forward. The difference is progress.
EI is not always how to "be nice": it may mean speaking an uncomfortable but consequential truth that others may avoid. Emotional competencies is the ability to express feelings appropriately and effectively so that people can work together smoothly toward common goals.
This skill set will change the dynamics of staff-to-staff interaction, and leaders will serve as models of emotional management for subordinates.

High-Stakes Decision Making
High-Stakes Decision Making
People who are experts in their field can be prone to an exaggerated sense of how well we understand the world. Research demonstrates that we have two systems available for making decisions, and under uncertain conditions, we do not behave in the way that economic models have traditionally assumed—we do not "maximize utility."
We have a slow, deliberate, analytical, and consciously effortful mode of reasoning about the world, and in contrast, it is our fast, automatic, intuitive, and largely unconscious mode. There are unconscious errors of reasoning that distort our judgment; these are cognitive biases.
Participants will obtain a clearer vision of flawed human reason, and they will learn very specific steps to reduce overconfidence. They will learn to be more analytical, more vigilant, and more able to question.
Conventional problem-solving or drill-down skills tend not to address human cognitive flaws. This permits intuitive conclusions based on a heuristic rather than scrutinized logic, perpetuating our tendency to overestimate benefits and underestimate costs. This course is a foundation for loss and risk mitigation—a crucial and required executive skill.

Blue Pride: Shame-Based Organizational Behavior
Blue Pride: Shame-Based Organizational Behavior
There is a sharp contrast between respect-based and shame-based personal and organizational behavior. If you have ever observed the sort of fight that seemed to exist for its own sake rather than for the resolution of difference, then you have witnessed a shame-based transaction.
A respect-based system is one in which "patterns of interaction are based upon accepting people as they are—not as they should be—open communication, and accountability will fall on the respectful end of the continuum and, in general, will have more fulfilled and emotionally well members."
Participants will learn the origins of shame and how it perpetuates: they will learn the boundaries between the organization and the self. They will the interaction between shame and control. They will learn to transition organizational and interpersonal interaction from shame-based to respect-based.

Blue Line Science Field Training Officer Program
Field Training Officer – Certification (FTO)
Field Training Officer – Certification (FTO)

Field Training Officer – Certification (FTO)
The undisputed most important person to a law enforcement organization is the Field Training Officer. The quality of the organization’s FTO can literally decide the fate of that organization’s training success rate and the organization’s overall health. If the Chief Executive of an organization is the head of an organization…the FTO is the body. Just like life, if the head and the body are not unified in mission, vision, values and actions the organization will not function at an acceptable level. Everyone from the Chief Executive down must support the growth and knowledge of the FTO.
Blue Line Science has developed an FTO Certification program that fully prepares a new FTO to the very real and necessary expectations of their new role. Attendees learn how to convert excellence from a goal to a standard, and, in turn, learn how to truly influence massive growth and change into their future students of the law enforcement profession. At the completion of this training the new FTO will have an understanding and a skill set they can employ immediately. If fully supported by their Chief Executive and management, they are prepared to be the agents of growth and positive change for their respective organizations.
Field Training Supervisor (FTS)
Arguably the most important supervisory position in any organization is that of a Field Training Supervisor. This position can make or break an organization’s field training program.
Blue Line Science has developed this seminar for those who are skilled in their craft, agile in the moment, and desire to help others find success. If that sounds like you, this challenging seminar is exactly what you need. This seminar provides you with an opportunity to see yourself and others in a way that manifests success. Learn scientifically proven supervisory techniques to inspire productivity, growth, and accountability in the FTO staff.
FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM Master Instructor (FTPMI)
A leader must find ways to inspire those that follow them. They must deliver the right message, to the right people, at the right time. When done to mastery a leader can motivate immense growth and change. An ancient Roman warrior once wrote, “the Romans owe their conquest of the world to no other cause than continuous training, exact observance of discipline, and unwearied cultivation of knowledge.”
Blue Line Science has created this Master School with an exclusive list of talented trainers in mind. This course helps propel the skilled Field Training Officer into a position that most leaders live for…training others to be the next organizational leaders. The FTO is the undisputed most important position in any law enforcement organization. With that in mind, Blue Line Sciences takes this Master School very seriously.
All accepted attendees must meet exacting standards and be fully prepared for a serious educational experience. Successful completion of the school is not guaranteed. Blue Line Science will not bestow Master status to those who are not prepared and cannot complete the program to a satisfactory level. We want you to succeed, only if you want it first!
Field Training Management (FTM)
To achieve excellence in a Field Training Program the program must be lead enthusiastically and managed with a precision of accountability not often found in training programs.
Blue Line Science has developed this seminar for a person who has the passion to deliver excellence in a Field Training Program and the capacity to provide structure and guidance to all persons assigned to such a program. In this seminar, you will learn about program development, structure, implementation and accountability. This seminar is not for those without strong character. If you are poised to lead a field training program unlike anyone else, this seminar is for you.
FIELD TRAINING PROGRAM Executive Seminar (FTPE)
Excellence doesn’t just happen; it must be inspired and fully supported. John Maxwell, a well-recognized leadership steward, once said that an organization is only as good as the people who lead it. This statement seems so simple, but organizational leaders fail to measure themselves against this simplistic statement everyday all around the world.
Blue Line Science has developed this seminar for the Law Enforcement Executive who believes the first year of a new officer’s career is the most important to the officer, the organization and the citizens the organization has sworn an oath to. Excellence must be the standard of all Field Training Programs and the Executive Leadership must reinforce this message through their actions in order to achieve it.

Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP): Executive Seminar
Intelligence Led Policing (ILP): Executive Seminar
The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge. The truth is often hard to swallow, but the reality is that law enforcement organizations can easily find themselves doing what they have always done and not growing in vision and knowledge. This manifests into an illusion that the way they are doing business is the best or the only way.
Taking the information from the everyday and cautiously converting it into actionable data empowers law enforcement organizations to move closer to their missions at a far more rapid rate than traditional practices. Information is power, and intelligence breeds action. If you are a law enforcement executive who believes in best practices and wants your organization to embody real law enforcement success, an intelligence-led policing culture will set you apart.
